NOTE: all times are calculated at a temperature of 20° C and then change with the change of temperature according to this rule: for every variation of about 10° C, times are doubled or halved.

PAINTING CYCLES

Preparation (new or old media made new)

FIBERGLASS: Total and meticulous degreasing with silicone anti detergent. Remove all the wax. An easy control system is to wet the hull and check the persistence of water droplets or streaks of oil through the sunrays. In that case repeat the degreasing otherwise there will be no adherence. Wash with fresh water only. Light sanding.

WOOD: wipe any grease, resin, glue. Strong sanding. Dry well. Proceed immediately to  stain the new wood with at least 2 coats of "Lignoguard" and allow to penetrate - sand.

STEEL/IRON sanding: SA 2.5 sandblasting or ST 3 disking (with big disks). The metal should be primed as soon as possible from surface preparation treatment and before same present the beginning of oxidation.

PRIMER/UNDERCOATS (DEPENDING ON YOUR CHOICE OF ONE OR TWO COMPONENT CYCLES)

FIBERGLASS: 1 (15 micron) primer Fiberguard (or alternatively 1-component (50 microns) protective hull Marine Primer (epoxy two-component).

STEEL/WOOD: 1 (50 micron) primer (CR or Marine Primer) and 4 coats (200 microns) protective hull substrate CR (monocomp. chlorinated rubber) or alternatively 4 coats (200 microns) protective bottom Marine Primer (epoxy two-component)

FINISHES

EACH MEDIA: Apply 2 coats full of Giraglia (100-110 μm) and 1 additional coat along the waterline and rudder. Not compatible on light alloys

MAINTENANCE (SUPPORT /MEDIA ALREADY PAINTED)

Always remove the old antifouling to avoid potential incompatibility. This is always required if the previous antifouling is hard matrix that could adversely affect the grip/adherence of subsequent applications. If complete removal is not possible, prepare the old hull with strong sanding or at least washing with water under pressure. One in the case that reasonable doubts exist about the incompatibility between old and new antifouling apply 1 coat of primer (CR). Pirate is easily removed with water only if the hull is wet (ideally during hauling) or if it has dried due to sanding over time. If the new hull has been completeyl renewed, follow the cycles of new media except for wood where the stained primer is replaced by the first coat of the hull is diluted by 30% for better penetration of the wood. Please remember to totally renew the hull, up to its base, support every 5 years.

APPLICATION CONDITIONS

COMPATIBILITY: "Giraglia" is compatible with any antifouling and self-cleaning (tin free) and is therefore not compatible with hard matrix and all kinds of tin based antifouling (see maintenance).

ATTENTION: stir well before and during the application
• the protection is given only by applying the required thickness and this is achieved by applying the right amount in litres (divide the hull surface (m2) by the practical spreading rate (m2/lt) and multiply by the number of coats specified
• do not use on aluminium and light alloys
• since the times indicated in the card vary with the temperature to reduce errors apply 1 coat per day and launch afater 2 days
• Apply longitudinally (do not crisscross as it loses thickness)
• the waterline if covered with light colours (grey-white) can change color (can turn green or brown) due to oxidation by the air in relation to moisture.
